Three distinct voices from Canada’s roots music landscape converge for a rare and compelling evening of songcraft, storytelling, and musical interplay.
Folk icon Valdy brings his decades-deep catalog and disarming stage presence—equal parts wry wisdom and lived-in warmth. A defining figure in Canadian songwriting, Valdy continues to engage with immediacy and grace, unearthing truth in the familiar.
Coco Love Alcorn, with her unmistakable voice and open-hearted delivery, bridges genres with effortless soul. Her music invites participation—joyful, rhythmic, and deeply human—infusing folk tradition with gospel spirit and improvisational verve.
Rounding out the evening, Victoria’s The Unfaithful Servants channel Americana through a West Coast lens. With sharp songwriting, rich harmonies, and instrumental agility, they carve out space between old-time stringband energy and contemporary roots music.
The Seaside Music Festival offers a vibrant, community-rich program of events including free daytime performances at the Beacon Bandshell, evening concerts at the Army, Navy, and Airforce Unit #302 and educational workshops at the Mary Winspear Centre. Valdy
Valdy, born Valdemar Horsdal in Ottawa, Canada has been part of the fabric of Canadian pop and folk music for almost 40 years. A man with a thousand friends, from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island to Texas to New Zealand, he’s a singer, guitarist and songwriter who captures the small but telling moments that make up life. Remembered for Play Me a Rock and Roll Song, his bitter-sweet memory of finding himself, a relaxed and amiable story-teller, facing a rambunctious audience at the Aldergrove Rock Festival circa 1968, Valdy has sold almost half a million copies of his 13 albums, has two Juno Awards (Folk Singer of the Year and Folk Entertainer of the Year), a total of seven Juno nominations and four Gold albums to his credit. https://www.valdy.com/
Coco Love Alcorn
Recently awarded the 2021 Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Contemporary Singer Of The Year, Coco Love Alcorn combines diverse musical influences including jazz, R&B, pop, folk, and soul. Alcorn’s 30 year career has spanned 9 solo albums, many collaborations, multiple cross-Canada tours, song placements on TV and film, and countless festival appearances. Coco’s song “The River” has been sung by hundreds of choirs across the globe and is still travelling. https://www.cocolovealcorn.com/
The Unfaithful Servants
Described as “BC’s most exciting Newgrass band!” The Unfaithful Servants have earned their reputation as a must-see act. With an original and exciting approach to acoustic music, the group serves up explosive instrumentals, compelling story-telling and high-powered vocals. With critically acclaimed performances under their belt (Vancouver Island MusicFest, Salmon Arm Roots & Blues, The Islands Folk Festival) and a Canadian Folk Music Award nomination (New Group of The Year) they continue to build upon that buzz. https://www.unfaithfulservants.com/
